Mr. Alfred Burnett Jr.

Alfred Burnett, Jr., 71, of Peoria, passed away at 3:53 PM on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Alfred was born on August 11, 1943 in Henning, TN to Alfred, Sr., and Emma Mae (Fitzpatrick) Burnett. After his maternal mother passed, Alfred, Sr., married Eddie Mae Taylor. Together they raised Alfred, Jr. Alfred married Cathryn Shockley in June of 1972 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2013 after over 40 years of marriage. Alfred leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted daughter, Alison (Edmond) Young of Normal, IL; his step mother, Eddie Mae Burnett of Ripley, TN; step children, JoAnn (Gregory) Young and Jackie, Sr., (Julia) Williams both of Peoria; one brother, Willie (Diane) Burnett of Peoria; 7 sisters, Matilda, Rita Mae, Sharon and Patricia Burnett and Tanya (Stacy) Baldon all from Tennessee, Brenda (Cliff) Massey of San Antonio, TX and Eileen Henderson of West Liberty, IA; 12 grandchildren, three of whom he raised, Jackie Williams, Jr., Jeremy (Dewana) Williams and Sophia Kennedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is also preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, James Burnett and 1 sister, Mary Henning. Alfred worked for Caterpillar for 43 years retiring in 2011. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Peter H. Clark Elks Lodge #483 for many years. He also was a member of the Past Exalted Ruler Council #103 and held the position as Busser. He currently held the position with the Illinois/Wisconsin State Association and has also been a member of the Antlar Guard Dept. for many years. Alfred was held in high esteem by all his peers. He was a faithful member of St. Luke Baptist Church where he was Trustee. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Prince of Peace M.B. Church with a visitation beginning at 10 AM. The Elks funeral rites will be rendered at 10:45 AM. Rev. William Sturdivant, Pastor of St. Luke M.B. Church will officiate. Alfred will be entombed at Parkview Mausoleum. Family and friends will be received at 2605 W. Gilbert, Peoria, IL. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
