Mrs. Betty "BJ" Jacobs

Los Angeles - Betty Jacobs, affectionately known as "BJ", was born on January 27, 1938 in Memphis, TN to the proud parents of Charles Marshall, Sr. and Rosa Lee Marshall who preceded her in death. Betty departed this life on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with complications associated with diabetes. Betty was baptized as an infant at St. Augustine Catholic Church. For many years she was a faithful member of St. Augustine. Betty attended elementary and high school at St. Augustine. After high school graduation, Betty attended Prairie View A & M University in Texas where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. Betty met Aaron (Jake) Jacobs while attending Prairie View. After graduating from college, Betty and Jake moved to Los Angeles, CA to start their life together. They were married on March 19, 1960. Six years later, Betty and Jake became the proud and loving parents of Lisa Marie Jacobs. Betty spent many years working for the County of Los Angeles. She worked in the County Hall of Records as a legal secretary. Betty retired after 23 years of a rewarding career with Los Angeles County. She had many hobbies which included reading, bowling, crocheting and needlepoint and most of all shopping. Betty leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 53 years, Aaron Jacobs. Her loving daughter, Lisa M. Jacobs. Four sisters; Sister Mary Charlotte Marshall, Helen Hoof, Charlene Marshall and Maggie Lee Hampton. One brother Robert Marshall (Beryl). One brother Charles Marshall, Jr. who preceded her in death. Three grandsons, Julius, Jordan and Jaylan Slaughter. In addition to her immediate family, Betty leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews, cousins and many friends. "BJ" will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We will all cherish loving memories of her. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Inglewood Park Cemetery in the Manchester Chapel, 3801 Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, CA 90301. Chaplain Maxie James will officiate. A private interment will be held at a later date. Inglewood Park Mortuary and Cemetery has been entrusted with arrangements.
