Mrs. Billie Catherine Comer

Mrs. Billie Catherine Comer, 79, of Peoria, IL passed away peacefully at 2:08 am on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at her home surrounded by family. Billie was born on February 9, 1934 in Franklin, KY to B. & Cassie (Moore) Elliott. She married Gilbert Comer, Jr., on August 29, 1960 in Peoria, and together they raised 11 children. Billie had a strong work ethic. She retired from Caterpillar, E. Peoria after many years of service; then worked and retired from Methodist Hospital as a Nurse. Billie was a foster grandparent; daycare assistant at the Tri-County Urban League and last a crossing guard for District 150 at streets Folkers and Fremont. One of her other noteworthy accomplishments was to be Worthy Matron of the Deborah Chapter #11 Order Eastern Star. Billie was a charter member of New Cornerstone Baptist Church where she was a Church Mother. Billie leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving husband of 53 years, Gilbert Comer, Jr., of Peoria; six sons, Jessie Smith of Urbana, IL, Wayne (Theresa) Martin, Sydney Paskin, Troy (Susan) Martin and Barry Comer all of Peoria and Rickey Daugherty of St. Petersburg, FL; three daughters, Cassaundra Powell and Regina Walker both of Peoria and Stacie (Larry) Gaines of Rosemont, MN; three brothers, Sonny Elliott of Franklin, KY, B. Elliott, Jr., of Louisville, KY and James Elliott of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Linda Elliott of Franklin, KY; 32 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 14 great -great grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other family, friends and her New Cornerstone Church Family. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 children, Gary Anthony Smith and Billie Fredonia Jefferson; 3 brothers and 1 grandson, Samuel M.K. Powell and a son-n-law, George Walker. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 17, 2014 at New Cornerstone with a one hour visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 AM. Rev. Dr. Mark A. McConnell, Pastor, will officiate. Billie will be laid to rest at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Memorials may be made to the Foster Grandparent Program C/O PCCEO at the Community Action Agency. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
