Mrs. Cassandra Faye Shaffer

Mrs. Cassandra Faye Shaffer, 55, of Peoria, IL, transitioned to her heavenly home with her family by her side at 4:23 pm, on Friday, April 21, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Cassandra was born on December 6, 1967 in Peoria, Illinois to Ruth Washington and Sammie Shumate. She married the love her of life, Tommie Shaffer, Jr. in 1997 in Peoria, IL. Cassandra was a homemaker. She previously worked for John Pearl Insurance Company as a billing clerk and Dr. Robert Hart office as a medical receptionist. Cassandra was a 1986 Richwood High School Graduate where she was a member of the volleyball team. She was well known in the family for her cooking. She always said “Cooking was her therapy”. Cassandra was the family prayer warrior. She was a serious sports fan. She loved the Kansas City Chiefs football team, San Antonio Spurs basketball team, St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and North Carolina Tar Heels college basketball team. Cassandra was a long-time faithful member of Star of Hope Full Gospel Church for 47 years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher. Cassandra leaves to cherish her most precious memory her loving husband of 26 years, Tommie Shaffer, Jr. of Peoria, IL; her son, Tandrae (Kaysha Morrison) Shaffer of Galesburg, IL; two daughters, Tajmah Shaffer and Alycia Thomas; one brother, Ruben Washington all of Peoria, IL; four sisters, Samella Shumate, Regina Washington and Cynthia Smith all of Peoria, IL, Dossie Shumate of Milwaukee, WI; three Godchildren, Quinishia Johnson, Ca’Marria Sally and Natasha (Richard) Watts all of Peoria, IL; three grandchildren, Ashiya Shaffer, Landon Albert and Masyn Linwood all of Peoria, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond Washington, Curtis Shumate and James Shumate; and a great niece, Rei’Yelle Grayson. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Star of Hope Full Gospel Church with a visitation one-hour prior at 9 am. Bishop Joseph Johnson will officiate.
