Mrs. Dorothy L. Lamon

Mrs. Dorothy L. Lamon, 89, of Peoria, IL, transitioned to her heavenly home at 12:57 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on December 21, 1933, in Peoria, IL, to Alfred Bert Stapleton, Sr., and Mary Martha (Oliver) Stapleton. She married Malvern Lamon on August 16, 1953; he preceded her in death on December 18, 2021. Dorothy was a 1952 graduate of Manual High School, where she sang in the Glee Club and was a member of the Home Economics Club. Dorothy had a great work ethic and was an amazing provider for her family. She retired from Caterpillar after many years of service. She was also very stylish; working and shopping at Famous Barr. Dorothy was a strong, independent, loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Dorothy loved sewing, reading, solving word search puzzles and traveling. She was a huge fan of all sports; but had an affinity for the Chicago Bulls. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Michael (Paulette) Stapleton and Timothy (Janet) Lamon, both of Missouri City, TX, and Christopher (Tameka) Lamon of Youngsville, NC; four daughters, Cheryll Gordon of Peoria, IL, Yvonne Hancox of Cleveland, TX, Yvette Ferguson of Smyrna, TN, and Kimberly Adams of Roswell, GA; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Stapleton, Sr. of Peoria, IL and Richard Stapleton of Dallas, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Theresa Parker and Marla Kelly; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Zion Baptist Church, with a visitation at 10 a.m. Host Pastor Sam Duren will officiate and Rev. Alvin Riley Sr., Pastor of Sovereign Grace M.B. Church, will bring the eulogy. Dorothy will be entombed with her husband at Parkview Mausoleum. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
