Mrs. Edna Mae Thomas

Mother Edna Mae Thomas, 87, of Peoria, IL, transitioned from this life to her heavenly home at 9:05 pm on Friday, November 18, 2022 at River Crossing Nursing Home of East Peoria, IL. Edna was born on March 10, 1935 in Harrisburg, Illinois to John Logan and Lydia Ann (Mays) White, Sr. Edna was a 1953 graduate of Harrisburg Township High School. Following her sisters, Edna moved to Peoria, IL in 1954. Later that year, she married the love of her life, Prentis Thomas, Jr., and to their blessed union, 5 children were born, Patricia, Margaret, Anna, Lawrence and Carol. Prentis preceded her in death June 6, 2005 after 51 years of marriage. Edna had an amazing work ethic. She worked at Bergner's for 33 years, retiring in 2001. She went back to work there after about 3 months, retiring again 7 years later. She not only worked outside the home, but was an avid homemaker. She loved keeping busy. Edna was a shopper, crochet designer and seamstress. She enjoyed listening to gospel music. Mother Edna was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mother Edna leaves to cherish her most precious memory her five children, Patricia Thomas, Margaret Irby, Anna Thomas, Lawrence (Mary) Thomas and Carol Thomas all of Peoria, IL; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 6 great-greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Logan White, Jr., and three sisters, Margaret Ann Jones, Beulah Beavers and Betty Trahan. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Zion Baptist Church with a visitation at 10 am. Pastor Samuel Duren will officiate. Mother Edna will be laid to rest along side her husband at Parkview Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with pre-arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com.
