Mr. Harold Lewis Hitt

Mr. Harold Lewis Hitt, 84, of Peoria, IL, transitioned to his heavenly home at 12:10 am, on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Harold was born on October 13, 1938 in Hillsboro, IL to Roy and Alice (Casey) Hitt. He married his sweetheart Mary Ann Sanders in Peoria, IL on October 23, 2010. Harold honorably served in the US Army from February 21, 1958 through February 20, 1961. He was last assigned to the 208th Military Division as a Military Police Officer and Security Guard. Harold had the distinction of being one of the 1st African Americans to be hired in the Ameren CILCO Gas Division retiring from that department after many years of service. Harold was a long-time and faithful member of Star of Hope Full Gospel Church where he served as an usher. Harold was always well dressed and a gentleman. When he and Mary Ann stepped out, they were always dressed to impress. Harold was well loved and respected by many. Harold leaves to cherish his most precious memory his loving wife, Mary Ann Sanders-Hitt of Peoria, IL; one step-son, Andre Dawkins of Oakland, CA; one brother, Paul Hitt of Akron, OH; one sister, Alice Randle of Dayton, OH; one step-grandson, Dominic Dawkins; a step-great granddaughter, Santana Dawkins and a host of brothers and sisters in laws; nieces, nephews, other family and friends who loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Mildred Crump, Lewis Hitt, Roy Hitt, Jr., Benjamin Hitt, Clarence Hitt and Herman Hitt. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Star of Hope Full Gospel Church with a visitation one-hour prior at 10 am. Bishop Joseph Johnson will officiate.
