Ms. Helen "Vicci" Victorine Brooks

Rev. Helen Victorine Brooks, 71, of Riverdale, Georgia; formerly of Peoria, Illinois passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, Georgia. Helen, affectionately known as Vicci, was born on August 8, 1951 in DuQuion, IL to Edward, Sr., and Helen (Scott) Brooks. She was baptized at an early age. Vicci became an ordained minister and was a member of New Hope Ministries for many years before moving to Atlanta, GA. Vicci was a Peoria Woodruff High School graduate and a graduate of Illinois Central College with an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Vicci was an educator. She loved working with the youth of the Peoria Community. She began as a Pre-school teacher for Peoria’s Head Start Program. She later worked with PCCEO as a Family Services Assistant recruiting families for the Head Start Program she then became an Energy Verifier in the Weatherization/LIHEAP Department. Vicci retired as a family liaison from The George Washington Carver Center before moving to Atlanta, GA. While in Atlanta, Vicci owned and operated a Home Day Care. Vicci was a fashionista! She loved fashionable jewelry and decorating her home as well as her family and friends. She was a motivator and an encourager to all her family and friends. Vicci leaves to cherish her most precious memories her son, Marc Jefferson of Portland, OR; two brothers, Edward (Preshell) Brooks of Phoenix, AZ and Gerald Brooks of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Sherrilyn “Sue” Brooks Hobson of Peoria, IL and Henrietta Dortch of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, Alexis, Taryn and Brittany; a special grandniece, Cryshawn Johnson of Peoria, IL; and a host of loving other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Pamela Brooks and grandmother, Victorine Farquhar. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Greater City of Refuge Worship Cathedral with a visitation beginning at 10 am. Bishop Timothy Criss will officiate.
