Minister Johnny Barry Johnson, Jr., 68 of Peoria, IL transitioned to his heavenly home at 10:06 am on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Johnny was born on October 18, 1955 in Wilson, AR to Johnny, Sr., and Viola (Goodlow) Johnson. Johnny graduated from Rivercrest High School in Wilson, Arkansas where he was a member of the football and track team. He married the lovely Carolyn Holcomb on May 5, 2007 in Peoria, IL. After moving to Peoria, IL he took classes at Black Hawk College in Moline, IL and Illinois Central College in East Peoria, IL. Johnny last worked at the Peoria Civic Center as an usher. Johnny was multi-talented. He was an artist who was a gifted pencil drawer. He was a playwriter and performer at the Performing Arts Center at ICC where one of his plays was directed by Doug Day. Johnny was a talented singer with a soulful voice. He was a part of several gospel groups in Arkansas and Peoria, including the Majestic Sons of Zion. Before moving to Peoria, IL, Johnny was a member and Senior Associate Minister of United M.B. Church in Gobler, MO, where his father was the Pastor. Johnny was a member of New Morning Star M.B. Church where he served as one of the Associates Ministers and one of the directors of the Men’s Chorus. Johnny leaves to cherish his most precious memory, his darling wife of 16 years, Carolyn Johnson of Peoria, IL; three sons, Kevin (Sherilyn) Johnson of Clarksville, TN, Andre (Tracey) Johnson of Osceola, AR and Deon (Shawn'ta) Robinson of Blytheville, AR; two daughters, Consuela (Jackie) Thomas of Wilson, AR and Pamela Perry of Jacksonville, AR; bonus sons, Steven Matthews and Frazer Matthews, Jr., both of Peoria, IL and Eric (LaToya) Matthews of Conyers, GA; one brother, Robert L. Stevenson of Sacramento, CA; two sisters, Dorothy (Douglas) Wight of Horn Lake, MS and Cathy Williams of Matthews, NC and a host of grandchildren, great-grand grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Theodore Roosevelt Quinn, III; two brothers, Bruce Stevens and Lawrence Johnson, one sister, Jewell Brownlee and son-in-law, Joe Perry Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church with a visitation one-hour before beginning at 10:00 am.
