Mrs. Lovie Lee (Carr) Baker

Mrs. Lovie Lee Carr Baker, 90, of Peoria, IL, heaven gained an angel at 9:35 pm on Saturday, November 8, 2025 surrounded by her family. Mother Baker was born on June 19, 1935 in Webb, MS to Ethel Johnson and Luke Herod. She married Ocell Carr, Sr. and to their union they had seven children. She later married Percy Baker, Sr. and to their union they had one daughter. Mother Baker worked for Peoria District 150 as a cafeteria food server. She was one of the founding members of St. Luke Baptist Church; where she served on the Mother’s Board, Usher Board and the United Usher Board for many years. She later joined Love Joy C.O.G.I.C. where she also served on the Mother’s Board. Mother Baker would testify every Sunday giving God Glory and Praise. Mother Baker was an avid listener and an excellent cook. She was a one of a kind; she was a caring, soft spoken and giving woman of God who took her relationship with God very serious. She always had a smile on her face and always eager to speak and give an encouraging word to whomever she met. Mother Baker was a great mother to all. To know her was to love her. Mother Baker leaves to cherish his most precious memory two sons, Robert Carr of Peoria, IL and Michael Carr of Milwaukee, WI; a nephew whom she loved like a son, James Carr of Milwaukee, WI; four daughters, Barbara (Devear) Lewis, Terri Boyd and Wadondra (Wayne) Simmons all of Peoria, IL and Dorothy Carr of Tampa, FL; one brother, James (Ethel “Liz”) Meeks of Peoria, IL; 21 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who adored her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ocell Carr, Sr. and Percy Baker, Sr.; two sons, Ocell Carr, Jr. and Clyde T. Carr; one daughter, Irma “Tina” Carr; one sister, Alice Roberts; one son-in-law, Pastor Otha Boyd, Sr.; two grandchildren, Michael Maurice Washington and Christy Carr-Randle and two great grandchildren, Fester Moore and Terri’je Boyd. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at St. Luke M.B. Church with a visitation at 10 am. Pastor Armon Allen of Love Joy C.O.G.I.C. will officiate and Pastor Kyle Pernell of The Free Church, Sikeston, MO will bring forth the eulogy. Mother Baker will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 11:30 am. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
