Ms. Orvella Kay "Vel" Jackson

Ms. Orvella “Vel” Kay Jackson, 71, of Peoria, IL passed away at 12 am on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Sharon Elms Nursing Home. Orvella also known as "Lovie" was born in Peoria, IL on April 18, 1950 to Ida Belle (Sephus) Williams and Orville Kennerly. Orvella worked at the U.S. Post Office, retiring after 40 years of service. She was an avid bowler on several different teams. Orvella was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC). She loved to play bingo and travel. Orvella was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and later attended St. Martin de Porre Catholic Church. Orvella leaves to cherish her most precious memories her daughter, Ashley Jackson of Loveland, OH; three brothers, George Kennerly of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert “Bob” (Juanita) Williams of Peoria, IL and Christopher (Michelle) Williams of St. Louis, MO; three sisters, Cecelia Williams, Victoria (Phillip) Moredock and Lenna Williams all of Peoria, IL and a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Kristann Jackson, two brothers, Vincent Williams and Rev. Ivan Williams, and one sister, Theresa Williams. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Simons Mortuary with a visitation beginning at 9 am. Pastor Alphonso Lyons, Jr. of Mt. Zion Baptist Church will officiate. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. In accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Funerals are limited to no more than 50% of the capacity of the church or less. To be consistent with recommendations from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral home directors have been instructed and should follow CDC guidelines on gatherings, including those directly related to funerals, visitations, or graveside services. Funerals are limited to no more than 50% of the decedent’s immediate family members. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). *It is our responsibility as a Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible.
