Mr. Samuel Lee Hobson Sr.

Mr. Samuel “Sammy” Lee Hobson, Sr., 80, of Peoria, IL transitioned to his heavenly home at 5:07 pm on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his wife and family. Sammy was born on September 20, 1943 in Belzoni, MS to Lee and Katherine (Burns) Hobson. He married Dale Woods on August 7, 2015 in Peoria, IL. She survives. Sammy was a US Army Veteran who honorably served in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a decorated serviceman, receiving the Parachutist Badge for his heroism. Sammy was a workaholic! There was nothing he couldn’t do or fix. He was an architectural planner who created amazing designs for his clients. He was a self-employed general contractor. Sammy had amazing landscaping skills. He had a green thumb and was a great gardener. He last worked as a school bus driver for Peoria District 150 Public Schools for 10 years. Sammy loved to sing and was a tenor in his brother’s quartet group “The Hobson’s”. He loved sports, especially football and was a very good cook. He was a family man. Sammy was a praying man and faithful to his love for Christ. Sammy was a boxer in his younger years. He attended St. Paul Peoria Church for many years. Sammy leaves to cherish his most precious memory, his wife of 9 years, Dale Hobson; four sons, Samuel (Catrese) Hobson, II, Ryan (Tina) Hobson, Sr., Anthony Parks, Sr. and Derrick Hobson all of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Carla Cleary and Karmen Johnson both of Peoria, IL; six brothers, Cary “Junior” Henley, Jr., Herman (Clara) Hobson, Clerence Henley, all of Peoria, IL, Willie G. Henley of Hollywood, FL and Charles (Lorraine) Hobson and Carl Hobson of Gary, IN; 6 sisters, Emma Henley, Vanessa Henley and Annette Henley all of Peoria, IL; Edna (Michael) Williams, Betty (Kevin) Ayres and Gwen Dixon-Hobson all of Gary, IN; 42 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Sylvester Hobson and Dan Hobson; two sisters, Jean Williams and Anne Dantzler and one granddaughter, Precious Hobson. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Grace Apostolic Assembly with a visitation one-hour prior beginning at 10 am. Suffragan Bishop James Ware will officiate. Sammy will be laid to rest at Historic Springdale Cemetery on Soldier Hill with full Military Honors. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
