Mr. Thurman "Buck" Alvas Nance

Mr. Thurman Alvas “Buck” Nance, 82, formerly of Peoria, IL, departed this life May 1, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. He was surrounded by Pastor Ware, family and friends, reading scriptures and singing praises as he transitioned to his heavenly home. Thurman was born to Emmett Lee and Christina (Stratton) Nance on October 31, 1933, in Elkville, Illinois. Thurman attended Elkville Community High School, graduating in 1951. Shortly after graduation, Thurman relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953, and received an Honorable Discharge after serving in the Korean War. (Decorations, Medals, Badges: National Defense Service Medal / Korean Service Ribbon / United Nations Service Medal / Marksmanship Badge) Thurman was united in holy matrimony to Charlesmarie Martin on July 13, 1956, together they enjoyed thirty-six years of marriage until Marie departed this life on August 15, 1992. Thurman professed a hope in Christ and was baptized into fellowship with Eastside Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee until his health began to decline. He leaves to cherish his memory, one son: Thurman Douglas Nance, Sr. (Lori Pickens) and three beautiful daughters: Deborah Nance, Robin Nance and Kimberly Nance. Nine Grandchildren: DeNitria (Donte’), Kevin (Roshawn), Satia (Calvin), Blake, Alexus, Dougie, Donnovan, Devon and Monika. Six Great-Grandchildren: Donte’ Jr., Davion, Brooklyn, Heaven, Amya and Lyanna. One Brother: Gilbert Nance. One Brother-in-law: Robert Dozier. Special nephew Wendell Nance. God-daughter: Angie Sharp-Stubbs. Special daughter: Gloria Stewart. Special Granddaughter Melanie (Devon). A host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, Emmett Nance, Jr., Obadiah Nance, Clifford Nance, Wayland Nance, four sisters, Pauline White, Lois Bass, Ida Mae Armstrong, Marcia Dozier. Mr. Thurman Nance was a father figure to not only the children in his neighborhood, but to every child he came in contact with and was known as “Gran-Daddy” to a host of their children. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1pm at Eastside Baptist Church, 2845 Baltimore Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46218. There will be a 2 hours visitation from 11 am – 1pm. Pastor Ray S. Ware will officiate. Thurman will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery. Quincy J.
