Ms. Zerry McAfee

Ms. Zerry McAfee, 80, of Peoria, IL transitioned from this life to her heavenly home at 6:39 pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at her residence. Mother McAfee was born on August 4, 1938 in Peoria to Jodie and Mary (Williams) McAfee. Mother McAfee was a therapist with the Human Services Center retiring after 27 years of service. She was a member of Good Testimony Community Church, where she served on the Mother’s Board, Program Director, Choir Director, Choir Member and sang with the Queens of Harmony. Mother McAfee was a former member of Pleasant Grove M.B. Church where she was the Choir Director of the Gospel Choir. She loved to attend church to hear good preaching and good singing. Mother McAfee was a 4-H Club director, great cook and had an open-door policy to welcome anyone. Mother McAfee leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving husband, John Johnson, Sr., of Peoria; three sons, Clifton (Ronya) Linwood of Houston, TX, Christopher (Latisha) McAfee and John Johnson both of Peoria; three daughters, Theresa McAfee and Tara (Curtis) Lindsay both of Peoria and Christel (Edward) Finley of Denver, CO; three brothers, Rev. Melvin (Dora) McAfee and John (Willie Bell) McAfee both of Peoria and Calvin Archie of Rosedale, MS; six sisters, Celia Archie, Mariezell Johnson, Debra Williams and Flora Rivels all of Rosedale, MS, Shernette Archie and Clemmie McAfee-Thomas both of Peoria; one granddaughter, E’Monna Moore of Denver, CO, whom she raised as a daughter; 28 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Carl McAfee, Dean McAfee and Reginald Linwood; one daughter, Carmen McAfee; three brothers, Mark, Leo and Lester Archie; two grandchildren, Taurus Baugh and Corey Linwood. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Tabernacle of Praise Fellowship Church with a visitation one-hour prior beginning at 11 am. Host Pastor is Elder Adrian L. Owens. Pastor Melvin McAfee of Good Testimony Community Church will be the officiant. Mother McAfee will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
