    Mrs. Betty Jean Washington

    June 16, 1944 - September 20, 2021

    Mrs. Betty Jean Washington, 77, of Peoria, Illinois transitioned from this life to her heavenly home at 11:45 am on Monday, September 20, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Betty was born on June 16, 1944 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to proud parents Isaac, Sr., and Martha Scott. She was educated in the Mississippi schools. She married the love of her life, Eddie David Washington on June 11, 1964 in Chicago, IL. To their union five children were born, Eddie, Jr., Mary, Hosea, Connie and Marcus. In 1973 Betty was baptized in the “Mighty Name of Jesus” at All Nations Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor Ervin Turner. She faithfully served there until the family moved membership in 1983 to Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ under the leadership of the late Suffragan Bishop Val Johnson where she served in the choir and culinary ministry. Betty was a homemaker and co-owner of Capital Janitorial Service where she helped her husband in running the family business. She was instrumental in helping people move from her home town in Mississippi in their quest for a better life in Illinois. She assisted in helping raise her grandchildren. She was also known for her infamous, amazing sweet potato and pecan pies and her impeccable stylish and fashionable attire. Betty leaves to cherish her most precious memory her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Eddie David Washington, Sr.; three sons, Eddie D. (Juanita) Washington, Jr., of Dunlap, IL, Hosea (Angela) Washington of Peoria, IL, Marcus C. (Reneece) Washington of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Mary Washington of Peoria, IL and Connie Washington of Atlanta, GA; 8 grandchildren, Dominic, Krishna, Alexis, Amanda, Julian, Angelique, Adriana and Ahmad; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and her Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ Family. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary and Dell Scott and two brothers, Isaac Scott, Jr., and William Scott. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ with a two hour visitation beginning at 9 am. The host Pastor is Elder Henry Bolden, Jr. Elder Earnest Rodgers will officiate. Betty will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
