Ms. Bonnie Jean Vanzant, 62, of Peoria, Illinois transitioned from this life to her heavenly home at 10:48 PM on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family. Bonnie was born May 22, 1958 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Mae Ann (Milet) and Fairl Vanzant, Sr. She attended Trewyn Middle School. She also attended The Common Place School. Bonnie was a loving mother. She loved her family. She loved to cook, laugh and have fun. Bonnie was always helpful to others. She last worked at Junction City Inn in housekeeping. Bonnie leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving children, Loretta Vanzant of Peoria, IL, Martha Vanzant of Beloit, WI, Latisha Vanzant of Indianapolis, IN and Austin Armstrong of Peoria, IL; step brother, Raymond (Carlethra) Mays; step sisters, Trudy Mays and Mattie (Dwayne) Mays; a host of grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her biological brother, Fairl Vanzant, Jr., and her stepfather, Earnest L. Mays A private funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Sovereign Grace M.B. Church with a visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Alvin Riley, Sr., will bring words of comfort. Bonnie will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. In accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Funerals are limited to 50 family members of the decedents, not including the staff at Simon Mortuary and no more than 25% or less people at the church. To be consistent with recommendations from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral home directors have been instructed and should follow CDC guidelines on gatherings, including those directly related to funerals, visitations, or graveside services. Funerals are limited to no more than 10 of the decedent’s immediate family members. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). *It is our responsibility as a Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible.
