    Mr. Carleties "Carl" Mitchell Jr.

    August 17, 1956 - November 15, 2020

    Mr. Carleties Mitchell, Jr., 64, of Peoria, IL transitioned to his heavenly home. God called him home at 2:55 pm on Sunday November 15, 2020 at his residence. Depending if you were family or friends. Carleties was affectionately known as “Carl” or “Junebug”. He was born on August 17, 1956 in Harvey, IL to. Carleties, Sr. and Mae W. (Mackins) Mitchell. He was a 1975 graduate of Woodruff High School where he played basketball and football. Carleties had a great work ethic. He worked construction and was a member of Labor Union 165 for many years. Over the years. Carleties worked with his father at Mayflower Trucking Company to help him unload. He was a CDL truck driver and drove an oil tanker. Carleties also was a taxi driver in Tampa, FL. Carleties as a man of great faith. He began his spiritual walk at Morning Star M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Calvin Hightower. He later joined Greater City of Refuge Worship Cathedral under the leadership of Bishop Timothy Criss where he was baptized. Carleties leaves to cherish his most precious memories his beloved mother, Mae W. Mitchell of Peoria, IL; his loving daughter, Kanisha Williams of Portland, OR and one devoted sister and brother-in-Law, Charlene (Edward) Sidener of Peoria, IL; his beloved auntie Lovie Cleary of Peoria, IL; and his dear friend, Anita Giordano of Rockford, IL; and a host of other relatives and friends who adored him. He is preceded in death by his father; one sister, Natalie Mitchell; two grandmothers, Louella Mackins Kirby and Alma Booth. A private funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Mt. Zion M.B. Church with a visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Alphonso Lyons, Jr. will bring words of comfort. Carleties will be laid to rest at Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com. Carleties, we Love you and you will truly be missed! Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. In accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Funerals are limited to 10 family members of the decedents, not including the staff. To be consistent with recommendations from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral home directors have been instructed and should follow CDC guidelines on gatherings, including those directly related to funerals, visitations, or graveside services. Funerals are limited to no more than 10 of the decedent’s immediate family members. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). *It is our responsibility as a Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible. The chapel can socially distance and seat no more than 10 or less people. All others will be able to flow through prior to beginning of the service. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
