Mrs. Fannie Mae Washington, 100, of Peoria, Illinois, transitioned to her heavenly home at 8:35 pm on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at The Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Eureka, IL. Fannie was born in Norwood, Louisiana on April 22, 1921 to Mattie Robertson and Isaac Collins. She married the love of her life, Mr. Robert Washington, Jr., in Scott, MS. Her husband moved their family to a better way of life in Peoria, IL in the early 1940’s following Mr. Washington’s siblings. Mother Fannie worked at Caterpillar as a custodian. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Fannie loved to read, mostly the Bible. She loved her family. Fannie was well liked by the community and would clean up cans off the ground in her neighborhood. She never met a stranger. She was a long-time member of Morning Star M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Calvin Hightower, Sr., where she was a member of the Mother’s Board. She later joined membership at Prince of Peace M.B. Church where she served on the Mother’s Board as well. Fannie leaves to cherish her most precious memories two daughters, Beola Walls of Peoria, IL and Barbara (Dwight) Washington-Hunter of South Haven, MS; fourteen grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Ella Norris, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Word of Faith Christian Center with a visitation one-hour prior beginning at 9 am. Bishop Leroy Davis will officiate. Fannie will be laid to rest at Historic Springdale Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com.
