November 22, 1931 - October 28, 2020
Mrs. Jerlene Lindsay 88, of Peoria, Illinois passed away peacefully on October, 28, 2020 surrounded by her devoted family. She was born November 22, 1931 to the late Charlie and Sarah (Bridges) Jamison in Magnolia, Arkansas. She married the love of her life John Willie Lindsay, Sr. on February 25, 1950. They celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death in September of 2000. She dedicated 28 years as a Computer Assembler for Caterpillar Tractor Company at the Mossville location. Mother Lindsay was one of the founding members who helped name the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ. She had been an active member for over 68 years and served as a chairperson of the Mother’s Board. Her influence in the church was so profound; with her inspiring and encouraging conversations about her love for the Lord that moved everyone. She was a Mother of the church, a mother to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, children in the Body of Christ and a mentor to people in her community. She was an avid supporter of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their numerous sports activities. Over the years, she attended many basketball games, cheering at the football games, watching tennis matches; Mother Lindsay didn’t miss many events. She was always so proud and honored to talk about their accomplishments. Her children were her heart and there wasn’t a prouder mother who expressed so much joy when talking about her children’s achievements. She would always say, ‘Your Daddy would have been so proud of you all’. Her children would love to see their Mom in her elegant outfits; which never came without a fashionable hat. Her taste was impeccable. According to the Bible, the Elect Lady was also called the Chosen Lady. This was her not in word only, but in her actions. She was a True Woman of God. From the Lindsay’s blessed union, they had eleven beautiful children; four daughters, JoAnn Lindsay-Young (Walter), Charlene Pickett (Moses), Janet Smith and Jeri Lindsay-Turner(deceased). Their seven sons, Charles Lindsay (Diane), James Lindsay, John Lindsay Jr. (Olivia), Clifford Lindsay (Robin), Gregory Lindsay, Curtis Lindsay (Tara) and Calvin Lindsay (Conswaylo). Their beautiful legacy includes 34 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her children, she had a two special God-daughters Mary Ella Pickett and Patricia Herrod; as well as 4 nieces, a nephew, other relatives and friends. Her beloved siblings whom she grew up with are all deceased. The three sisters were Charlene Otkins, Verdia Nichelson-Jackson, and Pearl Dismuke. Her three brothers were Theodis Monk, Wavon Jamison and T.L Thomas. She was also blessed with extended siblings; which included L.D. Stewart (Donna) of Ogden, UT, Theodore Moore Sr. (Ima Lee) of Alta Loma, CA, Earlene Tally of Fort Washington, MD, Arthur Stewart(deceased) and Bobbie Matlock(deceased). She is also preceded in death by a grandchild, a great-grandchild and her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 with a visitation from 9:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. at Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ, located at 401 Elm St, Peoria, IL 61605. District Elder Henry Bolden, II will officiate. Mother Lindsay will be laid to rest at the Historic Swan Lake Memory Gardens next to her beloved husband John. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. As the States begin re-opening in response to the Global Coronavirus Pandemic, some people are returning to their previous normal living standards. Unfortunately, we are now in our new normal as unreal and sometimes uncomfortable as the socially distancing and continuous use of protective masks may feel. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). Thanks in advance for your cooperation! *It is our responsibility as a Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible. The church can socially distance and seat at least 25% of it's capacity or less people. All others will be able to flow through and view prior to beginning the funeral service.
