Ms. Jo Ann Burns, 79, of Peoria, IL transitioned from this life to her heavenly home at 12:30 am on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Unity Point Health-Methodist Hospital. Jo Ann was born on August 7, 1942 in Peoria, IL to Everette and Catherine (Fortune) Tate. Jo Ann married Richard Burns. She was a rehabilitation counselor for drug stores. Jo Ann loved playing cards and shopping. Although she was very sweet, she was known to be very outspoken. Jo Ann loved her family and was a long-time member of New Morning Star B. Church. Jo Ann leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving and devoted family which includes 3 daughters, Andrea "Angie" Burns, Candice Clayton, Eteraka Davis, all of Peoria, IL; 1 brother, Curtis Shumate of Peoria, IL; a best friend, Edie Hooker of Flint, MI., a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents; 2 sisters and 3 brothers. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at New Morning Star M.B. Church with a visitation beginning at 10 am a long with the funeral service of her brother, Curtis Shumate. Entombment will be with her brother at Historic Springdale Mausoleum.
