Kay Frances Welch, age 68, of Peoria, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at her home. Kay was born October 27,1953 in Peoria, to Leonard Lee and Eva Shortridge. Kay is survived by son, Arthur (Jodi) Welch III of Bloomington, IL; one grandson, AJ Welch IV of Bloomington; one granddaughter, Nicole Richmond of Springfield, IL; one great granddaughter; four brothers, Terry Shortridge, Kenny (Tracey) Shortridge, Greg (Mauri) Johnson, and Glen Shortridge; special family friend, Fan Crooks; many cousins, nieces, nephews and family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother & two sisters, Linda Shortridge and Joyce Shortridge. Kay worked several years at the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, she later worked at the information desk at OSF St Francis Medical Center for 15 years before retiring. Kay was a breast cancer survivor and an active member of the community, volunteering with many charities and civic groups including Susan G Komen Foundation, Carver Center and The Tri-County Urban League. Kay was the former chairperson of the Tri-County Urban League Guild’s Annual Jazz Brunch. She was also involved with the Annual Soup for the Soul fundraiser. She was a longtime member of New Morning Star M.B. Church where she was a member of the choir. Kay loved to bake and sent her cookies, cakes and other treats to friends and family all across the country. A Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, Nov 6, 2021 at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, with a visitation one hour before the service beginning at 9 am. She will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Carver Center and The Tri-County Urban League Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
