July 20, 1935 - November 2, 2021
Mary A. Peters, 86, of Peoria, IL transitioned to her heavenly home at 10:02 am on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at her home. Mary was born on July 20, 1935 in Brownsville, TN to James, Sr., and Cleopatra (Wilks) Peters. Mary graduated from Carver High School. She was an avid reader and devoted her life to being a Librarian with the City of Peoria, retiring in 1999 after over 25 years of service. Mary loved watching old western movies, seeing her grandson’s pictures and gatherings with family. Mary was very straight forward. She always would speak her mind and could sometimes be blunt in doing so; but we all knew it was done out of love. Mary leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving and devoted family which includes her sisters, Bertha Peters of Peoria, IL; Bettye Simmons, Mattie Edwards, Rosa Robinson, Alberta (Billy) Herron, Carolyn (Freddie) Morgan and Michelle Boyd all of St. Louis, MO; one brother James (Felicia) Peters, Jr., of Fairview Heights, IL; a granddaughter, Hasani Peters; a great grandson, LaMaj Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Vanessa Peters; three sisters, Willow Dickerson, Abby Peters and Dorothy Page and one brother, James W. Peters. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Simons Mortuary with a visitation beginning at 11 am. Rev. Damairus Riddick will bring words of comfort to the family. Mary will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at simonsmortuary.com.
