    Ms. Maya Shanice Warr

    June 5, 1998 - February 3, 2018

Ms. Maya Shanice Warr, 19, of Peoria, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018, in Kirksville, MO. Maya was born June 5, 1998, in Peoria, IL, to Dennis M. and Felicia (Mack) Warr, Sr. She attended parochial and public schools in Peoria and graduated from Richwoods High School with honors in the International Baccalaureate program in 2016. At the time of her death, Maya was in her sophomore year at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. She was majoring in biology/pre-med with a minor in Spanish. Maya’s favorite colors were blue, lavender and black. She was very intelligent and loved playing the flute and piano. She also enjoyed reading, writing poetry, meditating spiritually, dabbling into cosmetics, and eating organic foods. From time to time she created special products using her skills from her hobby of origami. Overall, Maya was a beautiful, soft-spoken person who loved her family; however, according to her mom, Maya was feisty as ever if she needed to prove her point. Nevertheless, she was a much-loved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt and friend. Her sister, Nikki, can attest to her being a good auntie, because she babysat for Nikki often. Maya leaves to cherish her precious and everlasting memories her parents; one sister, Niquarra D. Warr, of Peoria; three brothers, Terence D. Shelby Sr, Dennis M.(Daysha) Warr Jr., and Shawaan M. Warr, all of Peoria; her grandfather, Austin Mack Sr., of Peoria; two nieces and a nephew, Ja’Kyra Cambric, Delilah Roberts, and De’Kari Roberts, who were reared in the Warr residence; four nieces, Aaliyah Lawson, Terricka Alexander, Terriny Alexander, and Zoë Warr; three nephews, Terence Shelby Jr., TeShaun Hightower-Shelby, and Kyron King; her Godmother, Denise Thompson; and a host of other relatives and friends who adored Maya. Maya was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Verner Warr, Sr. and Theophus Warr; her maternal grandmother, Virgie Mack; one niece, Ashanti Cambric, and twin nephews, Shawn and Michael Warr. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Rising Sun Christian Church with a visitation beginning at 9 am. Host Pastor is John Gibson. Pastor Martin Johnson will officiate and Associate Minister Dennis Warr, Jr. both of New Beginnings Ministries of Peoria will bring the eulogy. Maya will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com.
