Mrs. Nora Ann Smith, 93, passed away at 5:33 am on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Nora affectionately known as “Sister” was born on January 27, 1927 to Hosea, Sr. and Amanda (Harris) Kyles. Nora married Daniel Smith Sr., in Lexington, MS; he precedes her in death. Nora always had eyes on her family. She was very much in control of her life and her children. She commanded her respect. Nora was a single mom who was strict; but loving when raising her four amazing children. She loved to travel and play Bingo. Nora was a faithful and long-time member of New Morning Star M. B. Church where she sang in the Choir and was on the Culinary committee. Nora leaves to cherish her most precious memory her son, Daniel (Denise) Smith, Jr.; three daughters, Kattie Lee, Sally Williams and Maxine Jones all of Peoria, IL; one sister that she was very close to, Everlena Bell of Rockford, IL; 10 grandchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is also proceeded in death by her parents; a grandson, Andre Jones; 4 brothers, Tom, Ray, Leroy and her twin, Hosea Kyles, Jr.; 4 sisters, Martha Johnson, Mary Jones, Winnie Smith and Florence Neal. A Private Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Simons Mortuary with a visitation one-hour prior at 10 am. Bishop Joseph Johnson will bring words of comfort. Nora will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery. The funeral service will be live streamed on Simons Mortuary's Website or Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Simons-Mortuary-232095303487150 promptly at time of the service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com. As the States begin re-opening in response to the Global Coronavirus Pandemic, some people are returning to their previous normal living standards. Unfortunately, we are now in our new normal as unreal and sometimes uncomfortable as the socially distancing and continuous use of protective masks may feel. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). The chapel can socially distance and seat a limit of 50 or less people. All others will be able to flow through and view prior to beginning the Celebration of Life Ceremony.
