Mr. Percy “Slap” Lee Jones, 70, of Peoria, Illinois departed this life at 4:59 pm, on Thursday, April 29, 2021 surrounded by family at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Percy was born on October 30, 1950 in Perthshire, MS to Willie, Sr. and Christine (Walker) Jones. Percy detailed cars, farmed and loved fishing. Percy leaves to cherish his most precious memories, three sons, Jarvis Jones, James Jones and Jimmy Jones; one daughter, Dorothy Jones all of Peoria, IL; five brothers, Willie Jones and Roosevelt (Gloria) Jones of Shelby, MS, Jimmy (Nancy) Jones of Champaign, IL, George (Gloria) of Schertz, TX and Manuel Jones of Peoria, IL; three sisters, Isabella (Zeb) Ford of Gunnison, MS, Maryann Wade and Benita Jones both of Peoria, IL; four extended brothers, Sylvester “Obae” Williams, Cleotha Williams, Michael Williams all of Peoria, IL and Rickey Williams of Minneapolis, MN; three extended sisters, Jeanette Payne of Gunnison, MS and Diane Moreland and Jill Williams of Chicago, IL, 2 grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Percy Jones, Jr., three brother, Howard Jones, Mack Jones and Curtis Jones, two sisters, Jennie Jones and Sarah Jones-Rancifer. A graveside service was held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Morning Star Cemetery, Gunnison, MS. Celebration of life will be at 4 pm – 5 pm on Friday, May 21, 2021 at St. Luke M.B. Church. Pastor Benjamin Nicks will bring words of comfort. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with local arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com. Johnson & Scott Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements in Cleveland, MS. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. In accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Funerals are limited to no more than 50% of the capacity of the church or less. To be consistent with recommendations from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral home directors have been instructed and should follow CDC guidelines on gatherings, including those directly related to funerals, visitations, or graveside services. Funerals are limited to no more than 50% of the decedent’s immediate family members. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). *It is our responsibility as a Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible.
