Ms. Ruth Deal 72, of Peoria, IL passed away peacefully at home February 16, 2021 at 12:10 pm. Ruth was born on March 1, 1948 in Yazoo, MS to Sam Rogers and Alberta Bullock-Tucker. Ruth was a dedicated member of New Morning Star Baptist Church where she participated in multiple duties throughout her 40 plus years as a member. She retired from Western Meat Market in 2016 after 20 plus years of employment. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping, listening to her favorite gospel music (such as Shirley Caesar) and always watching a good movie (like Driving Ms. Daisy or The Color Purple). Her favorite song was I remember mama by Shirley Caesar. Her favorite phrase was “Where You At.” Ruth is survived by 6 children: Dorethea Rogers of Peoria, Lloyd (Jean) Rogers of Hannibal, MO, Mary Williams of Yazoo, MS, John (Tomico) Deal of Peoria IL, Kevin Deal of Peoria IL and Priscilla (Charles) Weldy of Hannibal, MO and Billy (Erica) Johnson of Arlington, TX; 2 sisters, Lee Bertha (Pat) Jones of Chicago, IL and Daisy Mae (John) Jefferson of Yazoo, MS; one grandson whom she raised, DeAndre Deal of Peoria IL; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends who adored her. She is proceeded in death by her parents, one son, Richard Deal, one brother, David Lee (Mildred) Rogers, one grandson, Lil Lee Edward Thomas, and one great grandson, De’Monie Thomas. A private funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at New Morning Star M.B. Church with a visitation beginning prior at 10 am. Pastor Cleveland Thomas, Sr. will officiate. Ruth will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. In accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Funerals are limited to no more than 25% or less people at the church. To be consistent with recommendations from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral home directors have been instructed and should follow CDC guidelines on gatherings, including those directly related to funerals, visitations, or graveside services. Funerals are limited to no more than 25% of the decedent’s immediate family members. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). *It is our responsibility as a Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible.
