Mrs. Sandra Kay Jorden, 65, of Peoria, IL peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at UnityPoint Health Methodist Hospital. Sandra was born on March 10, 1956 in Decatur IL to Henry and Mary (Wells) Lawson. In 1995, she married her lifelong partner, James Jorden. He survives. Sandra was a devoted member of the Grace Apostolic Assembly where she served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ wholeheartedly in heart and action on the usher board, in the choir, women's department, hospitality team, and wherever else she was needed. Sandra lived out the meaning of her name which meant a helper of mankind. She inspired and served every person she encountered with a selfless heart. She will be greatly missed. Sandra leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband, James Jorden of Peoria, IL; her mother, Mary Peterson of Kansas City, MO; two sons, Terry (Tiffany) Lawson of Kansas City, MO and Jermaine (Kim) Lawson of Griffith, IN; three daughters, Andrea (Todd) Purifoy of Kansas City, MO, Mary (Greg) Burnside of Peoria, IL and Cassandra (Harold) McGhee of Herrin, IL; two step daughters, Cynthia Jorden of Peoria, IL and Rebecca (Marcus) Moore of Oklahoma City, OK; one stepson, James Jorden III; five brothers, Earl (Zola) McBride Jr. of Kansas City, MO, Johnny (Shari) Thomas of Los Angeles, CA, Dale (Patricia) McBride and Robert (Diana) Lawson both of Kansas City, MO, Michael Harkins and Letha Blanks both of Chicago, IL and Stan Fonville of Decatur, IL; five sisters, Linda Lawson and Carolyn (Orville) Joshua of Peoria, IL, Eunice Lawson of Kansas City, MO, Deborah (Anthony) Webster of Decatur, IL and Wanda Harkins of Chicago, IL; twenty-one grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who loved her and will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her father, Henry Lawson, step-father, Wilford Peterson, her beloved first-born son, Sidney Newsome Jr., one brother, Larry Harkins, one sister, Loretta Burks, and one grandson, Tommie Forrest III. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Grace Apostolic Assembly with a visitation prior beginning at 10 am. Suffragan Bishop James Ware will officiate. Sandra will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com.
