Rev. Scottie Dean Gaston, Sr., 70, of Peoria, IL transitioned to his heavenly home at 2:07 pm on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Scottie was born on March 25, 1951 in Hermandale, Missouri to proud parents, S.D. and Annie Mae (Lawson) Gaston. He was a phenomenal baseball and football player and track star in his community. He married the love of his life, Sandra Dean Livingston, 51 years ago in Memphis, TN on August 2, 1969. Scottie and his wife moved to Peoria, IL in 1971. He became an ordained minister under the blessings and leadership of Pastors Amos Abbott and Calvin Hightower earning him the nick name “Lil Rev.” He was so named “Lil Rev.” because he was the youngest preacher in Peoria at that time. Scottie loved helping people; especially the youth in the community. They would call him “The Godfather” of the neighborhood. He also loved spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Scottie had an amazing smile and everyone knew him by his smile and his gold tooth. Scottie’s favorite past-times were fishing on Banner Marsh, interacting with his neighbors’ horses in the front yard and watching the Chicago Bears’ games. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church. Rev. Scottie leaves to cherish his most precious memories his loving wife, Sandra Gaston of Peoria, IL; his children, Anthony Gaston, Pamela Gaston, Daniel Gaston and Scottie Gaston, Jr., all of Peoria, IL; one brother, Rev. David (Renee) Gaston of Peoria, IL; and one sister, Margie Abstone of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren, Anthony, Jr., Ka’Neisha, BJ, Reka, Arianna, Trinity and Myla; 3 great grandchildren, Lil Reka, Kamarius and Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, John Francis Madrid and Charles Herman Gaston; one sister, Mary Lee Gaston and one great grandchild, Torey LaMonte`. A private funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 9, 2021 at St. Paul Baptist. No visitation. Pastor Deveraux Hubbard will officiate. “Lil Rev.” will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance limits will be observed. The funeral instructions for St. Paul Baptist Church are as follows: The funeral will be held for a maximum of one hour There will be a maximum of 100 guest able to attend (this includes the family contact as well as direct family members) Everyone over the age of 24 months will be required to pre-register (the family contact person has registration information) Everyone must wear a mask throughout the entire funeral service Everyone will be subject to a temperature scan at check-in All attending the service MUST be registered the night prior to the service Doors open 30 minutes prior to the funeral service for check-in To be consistent with recommendations from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral home directors have been instructed and should follow CDC guidelines on gatherings, including those directly related to funerals, visitations, or graveside services *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). *It is our responsibility as Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible.
