Ms. Sonja LaTina Marie Wade, 49, of Peoria, IL transitioned from this life to her heavenly home at 11:15 am Thursday, February 18, 2021 at her residence. Sonja was born on April 4, 1971 in Peoria, IL to Veronica (Wade) Walker and Mickel Simmons. Sonja was a 1988 graduate of Woodruff High School. She worked as a landscaper for Peoria Park District for many years. She enjoyed cooking and her favorite dish was Lasagna. Sonja had a caring spirit and especially loved her grandchildren and family. She took care of her grandmother, mother and daughters. Sonja was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. She was active with the Hidden Manna food pantry at New Beginnings Ministry. Sonja leaves to cherish her most precious memories, her mother, Veronica Walker; one son, Ashton Newell; two daughters, Ashley Davis and Mackenzie Catton all of Peoria, IL; two brothers, Mickel Simmons of Memphis, TN and Everett Winder of Peoria, IL; two sisters, Renee (Tyrone) Simmons Allen of Peoria, IL and Tiffany (Mark) Hawkins of Memphis, TN; three grandchildren, Le’Asia Crayton, Lamar Crayton, Jr., and Quest Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends who adored her. She is proceeded in death by her father; her brother, Derrick Simmons; her sister, Shonda Bailey Webster; and her grandmother, Frieda Wade; and her great-grandmother, Mabel Green. A private funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Simons Mortuary Chapel with a visitation beginning prior at 11 am. Pastor Deveraux Hubbard of St. Paul Baptist Church will officiate. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com. The service will be live streamed on Simons Mortuary's Website or Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Simons-Mortuary-232095303487150 promptly AT THE TIME OF THE SERVICE. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing and attendance, funerals are limited to 50 family members of the decedents, not including the staff at Simons Mortuary. The chapel can socially distance and seat no more than 50 or less people. All others will be able to flow through prior to beginning of the service. To be consistent with recommendations from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral home directors have been instructed and should follow CDC guidelines on gatherings, including those directly related to funerals, visitations, or graveside services. Funerals are limited to no more than 50 of the decedent’s immediate family members. *In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we ask that everyone in attendance: wear a face mask and refrain from hugging, kissing and shaking hands (as hard as it is to see someone you care about and not touch them). *It is our responsibility as a Funeral Directors, to do everything we can to advise families in order to honor our beloved Families and to keep everyone as safe as possible.
