Mrs. Thelma “Velma” (Sulcer) Butler, also known as “Too Sweet” 87, of Hanna City, IL, formerly of Baton Rouge, LA, transitioned from this life into her heavenly home at 8:40 am on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at her son’s home surrounded by family. Thelma was born on March 30, 1930 in Saint Francisville, Louisiana, the only daughter of Rev. William, Sr., and Olivia (Wilson) Sulcer. She married Lawrence Butler, he preceded her in death. Thelma accepted Christ at an early age. She loved feeding the elderly. She would box food and give it away. Thelma helped feed the victims of Hurricane Katrina by taking food to whomever needed. Before moving to Hanna City, IL to be with family, she had been a deaconess and faithful member for many years at Greater Beach Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Keno M.L. Spurlock, Sr. Thelma loved her family and enjoying meals together. Her favorite saying was “No food, No Fun”. Thelma leaves to cherish her most precious memories two sons, Lawrence (Julia) Butler, Sr., of Baton Rouge, LA and the Pastor Jerry (Minister Deborah) Butler of Hanna City, IL; two brothers, Sylvester Sulcer of Oakland, CA and David Sulcer of Baton Rouge, LA; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James Sulcer Sr., Bennett Sulcer and William Sulcer Jr. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Star Of Hope Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 9 am. Host Pastor, Bishop Joseph Johnson and Pastor Jerry L. Butler will officiate. Thelma will be entombed at Parkview Mausoleum. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
