Mr. Clarence Mason Sr.

Mr. Clarence Mason, Sr., 82, of Peoria, Illinois passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in Elk City, Oklahoma. Clarence was born on September 23, 1940 in Gunnison, MS to BJ and Jesse Mae (Wells) Mason. He married Freddie Butler and to their union 5 children were born. She preceded him in death. Clarence was a hardworking man who began working in 1967 for the Ford Dealership as a detailer. He worked there for 42 years retiring in 2009. Clarence’s love for his family and friends was unmatched. Over the years he constantly visited old friends in the nursing homes to help brighten their spirits and give them words of encouragement. He loved baseball and basketball. He had a special love for all his grandkids. Clarence was a great dresser, always sharp and well groomed. His constant smile and easy-going persona will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Clarence leaves to cherish his most precious memories his loving and devoted companion for over 30 years, Maxine Boles of Peoria, IL; six sons, Kinnie (Jennifer) Butler of Peoria, IL, Clarence (Gloria) Mason, Jr., of Rosedale, MS, Terry (Glenda) Mason of Atlanta, GA; Detrick (Angela) Harper of Peoria, IL, Ricky Williams of Memphis, TN and Terrence Herron of Peoria, IL; three daughters, Jessie (David) Drummer of Rosedale, MS, Jennise Williams of Memphis, TN, and Panja Thomas of Decatur, IL; one step-son, Eli Butler of Rosedale, MS; 39 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; four brothers, Willie Mason, William (Ida) Brown, James (Duran) Mason and Michael Williams all of Peoria, IL; three sisters, Jerry Dean Page, Silvie (Charles) Hill and Sadie Banks all of Peoria, IL; special uncle and aunts, James Wells of Kansas City, MO, Mary Lee Wells-Peterson of Kansas City, MO and Bertha Wells of Santa Monica, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Johnson and Barbara Brooks; two brothers, Johnny Lee Brown and Ray Mason and one granddaughter, Valonte’ Mason-Cooper. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church with a visitation beginning at 9 am. Pastor Alvin Riley, Sr., will officiate.
