Mr. Danny William Swain

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sgt. Danny William Swain, 77, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated public servant. Danny passed away at 1:30 am on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital. Born in St Louis, Missouri, on October 13, 1947, to Luther and Alma Swain, Danny was a man of remarkable commitment and integrity. He honorably served his country in the Air Force for many years before embarking on a distinguished career in law enforcement. Danny began his police service with the Champaign Police Department before joining the Peoria Police Department (PPD) on April 13, 1981. During his 28 years with the PPD, Danny's dedication and professionalism shone brightly. He was promoted to Sergeant on February 21, 1993, and retired in 2009. His exemplary service was recognized with 19 letters of appreciation from citizens and other agencies. In 1987, he was honored with both the Distinguished Service Award and the American Meritorious Service Award, a testament to his unwavering commitment to his community. Danny was well-liked by his police friends and truly loved being a police officer. Danny leaves behind his cherished wife of 25 years, Rosiland Swain. He is also survived by his children: Ashley Little of Charlotte, NC, Candace Swain of Chicago, IL, and Kimberly Stewart of Washington, DC., and three special cousins, Leslie Swain, Mary Swain-Penerman, and Marva Swain-Snow. Danny was a proud grandfather to Javondas, Mateen, Maliah, Michael, Jae, Ava, Donovan, and Olivia. He will also be deeply missed by a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Alma Swain, and his brother, Jerome Olgelby. A two hour visitation will be held from 5 pm - 7 pm on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Sovereign Grace M.B. Church. Funeral services will be held at 9 am on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Sovereign Grace M.B. Church with an additional visitation one hour prior at 8 am. Pastor Alvin Riley, Sr. will officiate. Immediately after services, Danny will be transported to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO where he will be laid to rest with full Air Force Military Honors.
