Mrs. Dorothy Mae Rodgers

Mother Dorothy Mae Rodgers, 59, of Peoria, passed away at 8:36am Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at her residence 2407 W. Richwoods Blvd., Peoria, IL. She was born November 21, 1952 in Brandon, Mississippi to the late Dock Hill and Fannie Mae (Boykin) Hill. She moved to Peoria, Illinois in June 1971 to live with her Aunt Ada Vance. She married Phillips C. Rodgers on December 9, 1972. He survives. Out of this great union, she also leaves to cherish her memories four precious daughters: Tonya (Roger) Rodgers-Carter, Marylin Rodgers, Sharon Rodgers all of Peoria, IL and Phebe Rodgers, Chicago, IL; three grandchildren Terrell Rodgers, Rochelle Carter and Tyrese Carter; three sisters Janet Louise (Johnny) Pearson, Saadia Santayia Hill-Johnson and Patricia Hill-Jones all of Mississippi and three brothers Eugene Hill, Jimmy Hill of Mississippi and Charlie Lee (Rosalyn) Hill of Peoria, IL; two godchildren, DeAndre Brown and Daycha King of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 siblings, Mary Ann Hill, James Lee Hill, Lidia Hill, and Helen Mae Hill. Dorothy was a 1970 graduate of Carter High, Mississippi. She worked for several years at OSF St. Francis in Peoria. She became a member of Glorious Church of Jesus Christ April 16, 1976 under the leadership of Pastor and Overseer Arlander Rutherford. There she was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the precious gift of the Holyghost. She served as a faithful Church Mother, Missionary, Missionary Auxiliary Chairperson, State Mother, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, and usher. She cooked, cleaned and did whatever her hands found to do in the house of the Lord. Mother Dorothy loved to praise the Lord, fish and travel with her husband. She was a great friend and counselor to many. She touched and inspired people with her words of wisdom. She was a great prayer warrior. She was a devoted and loving mother and dedicated wife. She was a true jewel that valued her family and her home. She leaves us with great memories of a dedicated, powerful and inspiring woman of God. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Friday, July 20, 2012 at Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 9 am. Pastor Henry Bolden, Jr., and Overseer Arlander Rutherford will officiate. Mother Dorothy will be entombed at Parkview Mausoleum. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
