Mrs. Martha Owens

Mrs. Martha Owens, 93, of Peoria, Illinois, transitioned to her heavenly home at 11:58 am on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at UnityPoint Health Methodist Hospital. Martha was born on August 23, 1929 in Coahoma, Mississippi to Henry and Birtha (Brooks) Jones. She married Alex Owens, Sr., in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1955; he preceded her in death in 2012 after 57 years of marriage. Martha was a homemaker who took great care of her family. She also and provided daycare services. She especially enjoyed babysitting her granddaughter, Shamear. Martha was a devoted mother, grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She loved to cook, watch the Young and the Restless and Walker Texas Ranger on TV. Mother Martha was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church for over 40 years under the leadership of Pastor McCoy and the current Pastor Samuel Duren. She served on the Mother’s Board and was a member of the choir under the leadership of Bro. Francis Duren. Martha leaves to cherish her most precious memories three sons, Richard Owens, Steve (Mattie) Owens and David Owens; two daughters, Betty Roberts and Rochelle Owens; one son whom she raised, Timothy (Shantea) Jones all of Peoria, IL; twenty grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, great greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Allen Owens and Elex Owens, Jr.; two brothers, John Wright and Roy Jones; three sisters, Flora Brown, Virginia Lotts and Mary Jones; one grandson, Freddie Roberts and one great grandson, Kente Owens. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Zion Baptist Church, with a visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Samuel Duren will officiate. Martha will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at SimonsMortuary.com.
